Flagler College Honors Program Intern Spotlight 1

Flagler College Honors Program Intern Spotlight

Hello everyone! My name is Cory Jackson and I am from Charleston, South Carolina. I am currently a junior studying coastal environmental science at Flagler College. My experience so far here at Flagler has been absolutely great and I am already dreading the thought of my time at the college coming to an end. Flagler was my top choice for so many different reasons. On the academic side of things, Flager has a great coastal science program where some of the marine habitats being studied are walking distance from the campus. This allows for a really hands-on educational experience where what I am learning in the classroom can be applied just outside of the campus within labs and independent research. On the other hand, I chose to come down to school in Saint Augustine because of its beautiful weather all year long. When deciding on a school, I wanted to go somewhere warm where I could surf and fish and Flagler College checked all of the boxes.

When I first saw that the Honors Program at Flagler College was offering the surf culture heritage blogger internship with the Saint Augustine Historic Society, I knew that this position would be perfect for me. While this internship does not entirely relate to my major, I have been surfing since before I can remember and surfing has been a massive part of my life. I am extremely passionate about the sport/lifestyle and it has taken me all over the world in search of finding perfect waves. When applying for this position, I felt that my experience and knowledge of the surfing culture would allow me to beneficially contribute to the creation of St. Augustine’s Surf Museum. I am super excited about working on this project and hope you guys will enjoy reading what I have to say.
