Henry J. Morton Sketchbook, 1867.

What is the history of the Henry J. Morton Sketchbook?

Henry J. Morton grew up in New York and completed his education there at Columbia University and the General Theological Seminary and was ordained as an Episcopal priest. He arrived sometime in 1867; his name is recorded in the roster of arrivals at the Magnolia House hotel. During his time in St. Augustine, he recorded life in St. Augustine in a 6 inch by 10-inch bound volume of blank artist paper.

This is a sketchbook of primarily pencil sketches, some with ink wash, of St. Augustine, Fernandina, Picolata and Charleston, SC done in 1867. There are over fifty sketches in the notebook.
